A Message Can Prevent A Memory Argument
Scrap quotes are often discussed quickly by phone or text while someone is at work, at a garage, or trying to clear a vehicle from a drive. By collection day, small details can blur. Was collection included? Did the buyer know about the missing battery? Was the car described as a runner?
Written offers before Oldham valuation do not need to be formal documents. A clear message can be enough. The point is to keep the price and the facts behind it in one place so both sides know what has been agreed.
Record What The Price Includes
Start with the agreed figure. Then note whether collection is included, where the car is being collected from, and whether the offer assumes a complete vehicle. If the buyer has said the price depends on certain parts being present, keep that message.
This matters when comparing scrap car quotes. A bigger number that excludes difficult recovery or assumes a complete car may not be better than a slightly lower figure that includes the actual condition. Written detail helps you compare properly.
Add The Vehicle Condition
The offer should sit alongside the condition details supplied. Mention whether the car starts, rolls, has keys, has wheels fitted, has flat tyres, is damaged, or has parts removed. If the catalyst, battery or alloys are missing, include that clearly.
You do not have to write a long report. A short, accurate description is enough: "2012 diesel estate, non-runner, complete, two flat tyres, parked on drive" gives the buyer far more to work with than the registration alone.
Keep Access Notes With The Quote
Access is part of the valuation because collection effort can affect the job. If the car is on a slope, in a narrow street, inside a yard, behind a gate, or blocked by another vehicle, put that in the same conversation as the offer.
Photos can help here. A wide shot of the car in its parking spot gives useful evidence if the pickup is not straightforward. It also helps the driver arrive with a better idea of where to stop and what might need moving.
Payment And Timing Should Be Clear
Before booking, check how payment will be made and when. Keep the buyer's payment explanation in writing with the collection time. That does not need to be complicated; it just avoids confusion when the vehicle is ready to go.
If someone else will meet the driver, make sure they can see the agreed details. Many handover problems happen because the person at the door does not know what was arranged. A screenshot or forwarded message can keep the job calm.
Update The Offer If The Car Changes
If a part is removed after the quote, or the car is moved into a harder position, tell the buyer. The written offer was based on the facts available at the time. Changing those facts without saying anything invites a price dispute.
The best written offer is simple, honest and current. It shows the price, the car, the access and the payment arrangement together. That makes the valuation easier to trust and the collection easier to finish cleanly.
